Welcome to Dorset Search & Rescue

Dorset Search & Rescue (DorSAR) is a team of highly trained volunteers who work with the Police, Coastguard & other emergency services in:

  • Search & Recovery of Missing Persons

  • Search & Recovery of Significant Objects

  • Support at Major Incidents

The organisation was founded in 2004 & since then has grown in both size reputation.

Available 365 days of the year, the team can deploy anywhere in the county within 90 minutes of being called upon.

Called into action via Dorset Police, DorSAR are able to offer considerable resources to support the county's emergency services in time of crisis.  With over  70 specialised search & rescue personnel, a comprehensively equipped command & control vehicle, plus a number of 4x4 vehicles operated by some of it members.  Our motto at the top of the page means “Hope for the best, prepared for the worst” which gives a true reflection of the professionalism & dedication of the men & women who serve with the team.

Dorset Search & Rescue is a registered charity & does not receive any government funding, therefore the team rely on donations & sponsorship from the local community & business.  DorSAR are also privileged to enjoy the patronage of Mr William Gronow Davis, who owns the Rushmore Estate in the north of the county.  Without this support, DorSAR could not function.

This website will give you an insight into the team & what events are on the calendar  DorSAR are always keen to hear from both prospective new members & sponsors.
